Soul Nourishment #6

"Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.  He who calls you is faithful; he will surely do it." - 1 Thessalonians 5:23-24

Thoroughly Alive - blog post by Sarah Clarkson
"I woke up on the wrong side of my soul the other day. . . . but there was a calm that came into my mind, joining the odd fellowship of my soul and its troubles."

"The longing for home is woven into the fabric of the life of every man, every woman, and every child.  It is profoundly affected by their inescapable connection to place, persons, and principles - the incremental parts of a covenant community.  While the nomad spirit of modernity has dashed the integrity of community, it has done nothing to alter the need for it.  Covenantal attachment has always been an inescapable aspect of the healthy psyche, and it always will be.  Uprootedness has always been a kind of psychosis, and likewise, it always will be.  Hearth and home are the cornerstones of help, hope, and happiness." -George Grant

"Tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the LORD, his power, and the wonders he has done. . . . so the next generation would know them, even the children yet to be born, and they in turn would tell their children.  Then they would put their trust in God and would not forget his deeds but would keep his commands." -Psalm 78:4, 6-7

"The family home is the nursery of love.  Intimacy grows where we live together.  But in Scripture the home is always only a means to an end, the medium by which we begin to understand the relationship we have together with God." - Abraham Kuyper

Hoping you stuck around for this final quote...
"Because of sin, we can never fully replicate our Heavenly Home on this earth, but the Christian home should be a sweet foretaste of the home that our Savior purchased and prepared for us. . . . Our homes can and should be a preview of what is to come." - Susan Hunt

7up Biscuits

Now, doesn't that look soft and fluffy and yummy?  It is, and so easy to make!  My husband tweeted about these biscuits earlier this week and I promised several people I would share.  I pinned a picture of a biscuit not long ago that said it was made with Bisquick, sour cream, and 7up.  When I clicked on the picture for the recipe, there wasn't one.  So, I googled 7up biscuit and found this wonderful recipe at Your Homebased Mom.  After making them twice, I've tweaked the recipe to our liking and kitchen.  It makes about 10 biscuits (depending on how thick you make them).

Ingredients:
2 cups Bisquick
1/2 cup sour cream
1/2 cup 7up (I used Kroger Diet Lemon Lime)
1/4 cup melted butter

Directions:
1.  Mix Bisquick, sour cream, and 7up together.  Dough will be very soft.
2.  Tape some wax paper to counter and sprinkle additional Bisquick to prevent dough from sticking.
3.  Gently pat dough out on wax paper to desired thickness (about 1 inch), and use biscuit cutter to cut out biscuits.
4.  Place melted butter into 9x9 baking dish.  Place cut out biscuit dough in butter and bake in a 450 degree oven until golden brown, about 10-12 minutes.
